Beijing’s 1st Charity Bachelor Auction was held on June 28th, 2008 at Kro’s Nest shortly after the Sichuan Earthquake. 10 bachelors were auctioned off to approximately 150 women. All proceeds from the cover charge collected and money spent to bid on the bachelors were donated to the China Children and Teenager’s Fund which, amongst its many programs, aids children devastated by the earthquake that struck western China in May 2008.

It was an event meant to showcase some of the city’s “most eligible” from around the world, from countries such as Australia, China, France, India, Mexico, and the U.S. The bachelors were selected for their charisma, personalities and most importantly their sensitivity to the situation in Sichuan. On display atop of the bar at Kro’s Nest, host Diego Laje introduced the bachelors and auctioned them off to the expecting women below. Cash in hand, women fought for a chance to dine with their bachelor of choice.

The most eligible bachelor of the night was Mauricio Morales, a member of the Mexican Men’s National Beach Volleyball team who competed in the 2008 Olympic Games. He was also the first Fashionista to grace the pages of Cityweekend in just his volleyball shorts and a Mexican flag. In a joint effort between 3 women, Mauricio raised over 4000RMB on his auction bid. Other hot items included local celebrity Xiao Bizzle, lawyers, investment bankers, oil tycoons and entrepreneurs. The event gathered approximately 20,000RMB for CCTF and it was a fun way to help contribute to a meaningful cause and charity.
