Regardless of relationship status, there are always new friends to make in this constantly changing city, Beijing. After being approached by couples interested in attending speed dating, we decided to organize something that would incorporate everyone – speed networking – which uses the speed dating format to introduce out-going people who enjoy networking to increase their social and professional contacts.
In traditional networking events or social gatherings people tend to gravitate towards the individuals they already know. It can be intimidating to approach strangers and even then the acceptable length of a conversation is unclear. Speed networking creates a structured environment in order to evenly mix participants and avoid awkward introductions. Participants are given an equal amount of time to chat and are free to exchange contact information as they wish.
Unlike speed dating, which is restricted to single people, speed networking is open to anyone looking to expand their social circle. Like speed dating, speed networking has become very popular in Europe and the U.S. and is increasing in popularity in Shanghai and Hong Kong.
